The highlight of Apple’s ‘Spotlight turns to Notebooks’ event turned out, as many have been speculating, to be a manufacturing process after all. Up to now Apple Laptops have been an assemblage of chassis, skin and a host of components hooked onto the frame. But now, Apple has a whole new way of doing things.
The Apple ‘Brick’ project rumoured to be announced on 14th October may take the form of a new Mac Mini box redesigned to imitate the larger Mac Pro desktop machines.
Psystar’s OpenMac is, in fact, a PC tower fitted with components similar to the Mac Mini but which allows the Psystar to install OS X Leopard without patching by means of an EFI emulator.
In what might be an omen of great things next week at MacWorld Apple has speed-bumped the Mac Pro and Xserve. Both boxes are now based on the Penryn processor recently released by Intel and first seen on Alienware’s Area 51 ALX CF back in November.
