Panasonic are well-acquainted with the formula of combining high specification optics with high sensor resolution and the Lumix DMC-FZ18 is no exception. The optical zoom lens has a range of 28mm to 504mm! Unfortunately these specifications are marred by some poor design choices.
Nikon has released a simple 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 DX zoom lens — simple apart for the fact that it comes with an optical stabilization system. The effective focal length is 27-82.5 since the lens is optimized to operate with the Nikon APS-C sensor.
