At last we know. On the 11th of July 2008 Apple will make available the second generation iPhone in 22 major markets and it will be available 70 countries within several months according to Steve Jobs who announced the launch today at Apple’s World Wide Developers’ Conference.
Much in advance of the mooted Summer release date but several months later than it should have been released Apple has adorned its site with the new 16mb iPhone now available form the Apple Store.
Steve Jobs announced during his MacWorld keynote speech yesterday an upgrade to the Maps application for iPhone and iTouch. The new version harnesses the power of SkyHook to automatically detect your current location and have the maps application default to that point.

Economic Daily News, a Taiwanese publication, is claiming that local company Innolux will be providing touchscreens for Apple from the middle of 2008. If true the timing matches speculation for the launch of a new version of the iPhone.
