The NEC CRV-43 may look very similar to the Alienware curved monitor featured here in January 2008 and that’s because it’s basically the same device (they’re both made by Ostendo) with NEC branding. The difference is we will soon be able to buy it!
When Dell took over Alienware earlier this year it was inevitable that the game machine manufacturers range would broaden to include more ‘mainstream’ models. So it’s no surprise that Alienware have now launched the Area-51 750i, their lowest priced model to date for a mere $1048.
Taking a swipe at Alienware and VooDoo, Toshiba has re-launched its Qosmio X305-Q708 as its ‘most powerful gaming laptop to date’. The $4,200 top-of-the-range model comes with nearly every component upgraded.
The World was shocked at Alienware’s monster curved monitor in January this year at CES but now Shinoda Plasma Corp of Japan have developed a 125-inch curved surface display using its PTA (plasma tuba array) display technology.
Dell is about to phase out four XPS gaming-orientated systems in an effort to prevent cannibalizing sales of systems from newly-acquired Alienware. This move reinforces the restructuring going on at Dell now that they have fallen behind HP in overall PC sales and in the consumer market where they’re struggling even to make a profit.
