As PDF-readers become more main-stream manufacturers are starting to look for ways to differentiate their products. Sony has chosen personalization as the USP for its latest reader along with the use of innovative technology and high specs.

The Sony Portable reader is another based on e-ink technology so it benefits from high contrast and can even be read in bright sunshine. The display is a 6″ diagonal making it comparable to others in this market but the device is only half an inch thick and weighs in at only 9 ounces making it ultra portable.

The Sony Portable Reader reads PDF, JPEG, MP3 formats as well as others so is able to take advantage of the many publications available on the internet.

The battery has a claimed 7500 page flips per charge and the expandable memory allows up to 160 eBooks to be stored at once.

Sony is making personalization a key feature of the product so buyers are able to select from a range of colours, specify custom laser engraving and select from a wide range of covers

The Sony Portable Reader is expected to sell at a price of $299.
