Sony launches Cybershot DSC-T700 and DSC-T77

Sony has today announced an extension to its Cybershot range of consumer-level cameras in the form of the DSC-T700 and DSC-T77 digital cameras. The T77 becomes Sony’s thinnest model at less than 5/6 of an inch and the T700 only marginally thicker than this.

Sony’s press release includes the following information about the two models:

Both models are built around a Carl Zeiss 4x zoom lens with SteadyShot stabilization and store data through the use of Memory Stick Pro cards.

Cybershot DSC-T77

The T77 boasts a 10-megapixel sensor and a 3.5 inch view screen of 16:9 ratio. The camera includes intelligent scene recognition and Smile Shutter which Sony claims will automatically snap the sutter as soon as your main subject cracks a smile. The smile detection software combines with face detection (prioritized for adults or children) and in-camera image management.

The T77 also features a very high sensitivity for this end of the market shooting at up to ISO 3200 and has eleven scene modes.

Cybershot DSC-T700

As well as all the T77’s features the T700 adds a ‘photo album in your pocket’ as Sony puts it alluding to the camera’s ability to act as a photo-frame through the use of it’s large LCD screen . It also has 4GB of internal memory storing up 1,000 high-res photos (must be JPEGs then) or 40,000 VGA-quality photos.

The T700 will be available in brown, green, pink, black and silver in late September for about $300. The DSC-T700 cameras will ship at the same time in red, ‘champagne gold’, pink, dark gray and silver for around $400.
