Nokia N86 Leak confirmed true 8MP phone to ship in Q2
February 17th, 2009Just when you thought the N-series format was dead Nokia has confirmed yesterday’s rumours online of the expected release of its first 8 megapixel camera phone, the N86.
It seems that all the emphasis on this phone is on the camera which has improved optics and, it is claimed, delivers superior photographs under ‘bad lighting conditions’ (I guess that means low light). In fact the phone is being sold with the tag line: “Imaging at its very best…”
Nokia is hoping that the N86 will take on not just existing 8-megapixel offerings alreadyin the marketplace, from competition like Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson, but also the glut of 12-megapixel phones launching later this year.

The BL-5k battery on this model should give a longer life than the BL-5F of the N96 — expect around three and a half hours of use in 3G and eleven at rest under 3G.
It would have been perfectly justifiable to expect a phone representing a jump in technology to come in a new form factor so It’s a shame that Nokia is still using the venerable N-series format. Please, Nokia, put the chunkey N-series to bed and give us something sleek and slim that looks as good as it works.
The handset will cost around $400 without contract from Nokia in Q2.
