Nokia 6301 cellphone is also a switcher!
Hot on the heels of Blackberry’s announcement yesterday of their 8820 device and it’s ability to switch from EDGE to Wi-Fi, Nokia has launched its 6301 phone. The difference is that Nokia’s box of tricks uses GSM as it’s cellular digital network, making it much more attractive to Europeans.

The Nokia phone uses Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology to acheive seamless voice and data mobile traffic over GSM cellular and Wi-Fi networks. This integration of local and cellular networks allows affordable landline home access and high quality, reliable access in the office.
One of the first companies to offer the Nokia 6301 is Orange — fresh from winning the Apple iPhone contract for France — also announced today.
The phone is a sleek thin design and boasts the following features:
- Weight: 93 grams
- Dimensions: 106 x 44 x 13 mm
- Camera: 2-megapixel
- Screen: 2″ QVGA
- Networks: GSM 900/1800/1900 Mhz, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
- Memory: microSD slot
The Nokia 6301 will begin shipping in Europe in the fourth quater 2007 with a US alternative but equivalent model some time later. Estimated price: £161 (€230, $324).
