Motorola announces EM25, EM28 and EM30 ROKR phones
August 6th, 2008Motorola has launched three new cell phones in its ROKR series all of which look quite interesting but their looks are a lot better than their abilities.
The three phones are named the EM25, EM28 and the EM30. The EM30, the best of this bunch, is to be launched this quarter in Taiwan only and the EM25 and EM28 a little later world-wide.
ROKR EM25
The bottom end of this range is the EM25. It’s a slider and weighs less than 90 grams. A UKW radio with RDS is also featured. The EM25 also features Bluetooth standard A2DP.
ROKR EM28
The EM28 has a similar specification to the EM25 but in a clamshell design. As it was developed earlier than the EM25 it lacks the Bluetooth standard A2DP function and can only play through headphones and car stereos in mono. The keys are activated only if one needs them. When listening to music for example the number keys are blocked and the titles appear on the display.
ROKR EM30
The ROKR EM30 is also equipped with the mode ‘SHIFT’ technology of the EM28, which Motorola presented for the first time with the E8. The keys are lit blue for telephoning and red for music. The EM30 supports memory cards up to 8 gigabytes and has a 2-megapixel camera against 1.3 for the EM25 and EM28.
The EM30 is Windows compatible and comes with Media Player allowing the user to purchase downloadable music from over 200 music stores on the web.
In all this is a pretty disappointing set of phones. None of the devices has UMTS and the cameras only offer 1.3 or 2 megapixels maximum resolution cameras. The illuminated buttons are fairly interesting and the appearance of each of the phones will appeal to someone so it seems they’ll probably be selling on looks alone!
