October 21st, 2007If you’ve ever been to a nightclub where the music is pumping out of speakers so loud, particularly the bass, that you can actually feels your bones being shaken you’ll be well prepared for the kind of feedback that the TN Games 3rd Space Vest kicks out.

Controllers have for some years now delivered some kind of ‘rumble’ feedback but it was a pretty weak affair and limited to the controller itself. This feedback vest lets you feel each punch, kick and bullet as you play any of the following games:
- 3rd Space Incursion
- A special version of Call of Duty II
- Quake 3 (with patch)
- Quake 4 (with patch)
- Doom 3 (with patch)
The device is based on technology from the medical imaging industry. Physician Mark Ombrello designed TN’s vest which uses air pressure to produce the sudden sensation of a punch or bullet-strike wherever on the vest is appropriate. The vest has a total of eight points at which it can simulate a strike in any direction and a variety of force levels
The 3rd Space vest will ship in November for £92 ($189, €132) and will be bundled with 3rd Space Incursion and the special edition of Call of Duty II which has built in technology to take advantage of the vest. For a limited time the bundle can be pre-ordered for £82 ($169, €118).
An SDK has also been released to allow developers to incorporate the feedback vest’s technology into their games so expect to see many more games compatible with this device. For 2008 TN Games says it is working on a version of the vest which will emulate the G-force sensations of motor racing and flight simulation games.
