Lenovo announces 3000 G-series notebook

July 29th, 2008

Aimed at the budget market, the Lenovo G-series has a modest specification but is interesting in that it comes (in Malaysia where it was first launched, at least) with MS-DOS pre-installed and giving the user the option of installing Linux, Windows, OS X or any other operating system.

That modest spec is as follows:

  • Screen size: 14 inches (diagonal)
  • Processor: 1.86 GHz Pentium Dual Core
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Hard disk: 160GB
  • Optical Drive: DVD burner
  • Graphics: Intel X3100
  • Wi-Fi: 802.11g
  • Price: $613 (converted Malaysian price)

Multiple configurations will be available in the US shortly including an Intel Centrino 2 -equipped G430 model with Core 2 Duo processors.

Lenovo themselves say this about the models:

“The Lenovo 3000 G Series notebooks have a stylish form factor and impressive feature sets; offering a compelling choice for value-conscious users seeking performance at an affordable price and looking to make the transition from desktops to notebooks. The Slate notebook comes in a sleek black cover and boasts a 14.1″ WXGA high definition glossy widescreen display. Equipped with Lenovo’s trademark One Key Recovery, the notebook allows users to easily recover data in the event of a crash. Communication and entertainment features include an integrated microphone, Realtek High Definition Audio and limited edition Power2Go 5.5, multimedia software that allow the user to record various forms of data.”
