Asus E-DT images published

March 29th, 2008

The Asus E-DT has been sighted! That’s if pictures published in Hot Hardware can be believed. The most striking feature of the device is its thinnes as can bee seen in the image below:

Asus E-dt

The base does not look particularly stable and it is not clear whether it is possible to separate the main unit from the chromed ring that is supposed to provide support.

The images don’t seem to show a DVD unit. Maybe its going to pull the MacBook Air trick of feeding off another machine but that doesn’t seem likely.

The appearance resembles the Wii or Apple TV but the innards are less well documented. We only know that Intel’s Celeron processor and later Atom processor will be used as soon as they are available.

  • The pictures in Hot Hardware of the Asus E-DT look plausible. Leaving aside the futuristic and unstable looking stand, the unit would be just a box about the size of the current Eee PC (about 230 x 170 x 25 mm). The current Eee PC doesn't have a DVD drive and there is no need for one on the E-DT.

The Eee PC is essentially a thick thin client computer. That is it has enough processing power and memory to boot and run applications. If you want to access lots of data you have to do that via an external device or the Internet.

The clever part about this is that it makes the unit simpler and cheaper.
