Is the Area 51 750i the first affordable Alienware games machine? — Err… No!
November 14th, 2008When Dell took over Alienware earlier this year it was inevitable that the game machine manufacturers range would broaden to include more ‘mainstream’ models. So it’s no surprise that Alienware have now launched the Area-51 750i, their lowest priced model to date for a mere $1048.
This is certainly a low price for an Alienware gaming tower but how does it compare with similarly priced machines from mainstream manufacturers?
Here’s a rundown of the basic specs:
- 3GHz Core 2 Duo processor
- 2GB of RAM
- GeForce 9800 GT video card
- 250GB hard drive
- 750W power supply
Pretty standard fair and not a setup I would describe as a ‘gaming machine’. However you do get the fancy lightable case with screwless bays.
But you’ll have to fork out some more money if you want quad-core performance, 1,200W power supply and a pair of Radeon HD 4870 X2s.
Alienware says the new rig will be available in late November.
