Pea speaker concept by Lu Le

September 5th, 2008

Lu Le was inspired by the “Peas in a Pod” concept to design a speaker system consisting of a transparent tube containing seven sound-emitting speaker-balls. The balls can be removed from the tube and spread around the room to spread the distribution of the sound — and probably to ruin the stereo image too!

Communication with the spheres is via BlueTooth and the lithium ion batteries within them are recharged by induction when they are within the tube.

One of the spheres and only one is able to control the global volume

Long Tran from YankoDesign says:

Each pod holds 7 wireless bluetooth speakers. Only one possesses the one ring to rule them all because it controls global volume. Each sphere is powered by a lithium ion rechargeable via induction when placed in the pod. The system doesn’t do surround sound since it can’t separate channels, but it’s a good way to fill a large area with a mixed stereo track

This concept probably isn’t the best way to create an audiophile sound system but this delightful idea certainly stretches our preconceptions of what can be done with wireless technology.

  • I just finished developing a virtual prototype for something very similar to this. Though there are a lot of differences in my design, this pea speaker concept gave me some great ideas.

How could I get ahold of the designer? I see all these blogs about it, but how do I reach the person who made it?
